DONATION ART

Art has been important to me for as long as I can remember – I was named after my Grandmother on my father’s side, who was an accomplished oil and water color artist. I was influenced by my sweet grandma, and by the times of social revolution that occurred in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Art can be fun and frivolous, but I believe it is at it’s best when it ‘says’ something -- gives a message, tells a story, makes people think. Art is like life and not worth much unless it helps make the world just a little bit better in one way or another.

I also sometimes work with a partner, Jay Schreider, who plays with wood. Sometimes we team up to make something unique – combining his skills and mine. Like me, he does not do this for money and 100% of the purchase price of our work is donated to nonprofits that benefit humanity – health programs, the environment, the arts...

Over the years this has included raising funds to help Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF, disaster relief efforts throughout the world, efforts in this country (Hurricane Katrina and AIDS research and local programs such as MORE, Department of Education and El Dorado Arts Council.

Currently, I am a member of the Placerville Arts Association (PAA), and the El Dorado Arts Council (EDAC) and have shown my work in some juried shows, including the Mother Lode Art Show, Galeria Posada in Sacramento, PAA Studio Tour, and the Saratoga Rotary Art Show.

In addition to my art, I enjoy trail running and hiking in the Sierra Nevada and in southeast Utah with my husband, Bob Read – almost as much as I enjoy being a grandparent.
