It was a flower that saved me.

It has been hard to be motivated when it seems that the good things in the world are being deliberately and callously destroyed on a daily basis. The joyfulness of life that I depend on has been tainted. One activity that has helped me escape complete depression has been to get out in the woods and allow the perfection of nature to soothe me. I do that almost daily now. Nature can be a cure.

But what really helped square away my mind was the day that I received a request to paint a flower. A Stream Orchid (Epipactis gigantea), in particular. This painting is to be used as a gift for a woman who is retiring from teaching college botany. The Stream Orchid is her favorite and it was my job to get to know more about this lovely bit of nature.

I felt immediately renewed, my depression was diverted, and one might say that it was a flower that saved me.
