Sky Camp at Sunset

Friends –

The ideal vacation. What should it include? Make a list.

My guess is that most people will not list things like dirty socks, pine needles in bed and rocks under the mattress. Nor would they identify tasteless dehydrated meals, lumpy powdered milk, sunburn nor blisters on toes.

However, they might include precious, dimpled smiles, unlimited and imaginative game creations and a game of cards over hot chocolate with Happy Campers. Conversations and a sense of bonding with two brilliant kids while lying under the stars that can be achieved no other way, is also in the mix. And of course, there is always the consumption of incredible panoramic views (like the sunset depicted in this painting) that take your breath away, to make a vacation perfect.

Well, you may have guessed that my perfect vacation included all of the above. And I would not pass up the tasteless meals and blisters to be able to fully enjoy the glorious time that Xochitl, Benjamin and Leonardo and I had this month while backpacking in Point Reyes. A dream come true for me.

This painting, once framed, will be available for a contribution to a worthwhile non-profit. Perhaps something that helps protect our precious environment is most appropriate.
